Maybe ABC would have been wise to air American Idol away from The Voice.
The Monday premiere of the revived singing competition secured 8.4 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49.

Meanwhile, The Voice secured 11.7 million viewers and a 2.3 rating. That was enough to top the night in the demo and American Idol by a comfortable margin.
Elsewhere, The Good Doctor (9.8 million/1.8 rating) beat out Good Girls (4.7 million/1.1 rating) in the 10 pm hour.
Fox: Lucifer (2.9 million/0.7 rating) and The Resident (3.8 million/0.8 rating) were on par with their most recent results.
The CW: Legends of Tomorrow (1.3 million/0.4 rating) and iZombie (0.7 million/0.2 rating) were in line with last week.
CBS: Man with a Plan (6.4 million/1.0 rating) and Living Biblically (4.7 million/0.7 rating) were steady.
